Male vs. Female, Gender Drug Patterns

So who is doing the drugs? Is it mainly male or female?

Well what I found is that across the nation Males generally are admitted into treatment much more often. Washington is generally in line with this trend, males composed 62% of the people admitted for treatment, compared with the national average of 67% during 2008. From this data, unsurprisingly alcohol, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana; all major contributors to drug admissions were predominantly male. The onlu major drug that had a majority of females was meth. In Washington slightly over half (53%) of the people admitted for meth addiction were female. This may explain why Washington is closer to the 50/50 line than most states. Washington generally has a much bigger Meth following than most of the 45 states west of it, explaining our slight deviation from the national average.

I also have a blog up on blog.com that's exploring some more interesting facts about Washington drug abuse. This one has lots of pictures and graphics to contemplate.
